how to zoom in on a selection of a track

how to zoom in on a selection of a track

Postby tndmbkr » Fri Mar 14, 2014 5:16 am

I am a cyclist.
And a track always lasts more than an hour.
A typical powertrack looks like this:

Somewhere in this graph there is an interesting hill climb (dark purple, 300 meters), about which I want to learn more.
But how do I zoom in?

I think my procedure is quite laborious.
I zoom in on the map of the track.
I cut away a part of the track.
And I make a separate activity of that part.

Is a more simple approach conceivable?

PS; I know there is a ++button in the upper right corner of the chart.
But that button influences both the X-axis and the Y-axis
I would like to stretch the chart along the X-axis

Take a look at the Course Score Plugin.
otherwise read the FAQ section, specifically look at viewtopic.php?p=32504#p32504
You can add additional charts to the display, including elevation to find your section.
Or just select the section on the map and then do fit-to-window on the chart...or select on the chart and fit-to-window on the map.

I do not have problems to find my section on the map.
I know how to select the section on the map and then do fit-to-window on the map.
But when I do fit-to-window on the chart, nothing happens.

When I follow your instructions regarding the resizing of windows, I will have this view
Image
Such a chart does not give me the information I want to have

When I cut a section out of the track, and make an activity of this section, I will have a chart like this
Image
Such a chart tells me everything I want to know
But it is a lot of work to produce a chart like that.

I think it should be possible to zoom in on a section of a track in a shareware application like ST3+TrainingAnalysis by stretching the X-axis of the chart.

It is possible in several freeware applications.
For instance. When I load the whole track in a freeware application like My Tourbook, I can easily zoom in on my section.
And I will have a chart like this with a few mouseclicks.

(do not ask me why the chart of TrainingAnalysis is different from the chart of My Tourbook)

First image shows selection of a section of the route using the zoomed in map. I mouse click on the first desired trackpoint and then holding down mouse, drag to the ending trackpoint.

Notice the chart section is selected.
Next just need to press Fit-To-Window on the chart as done in the second image.

Texmurphy. Thank you for your comprehensive answer.
BUT Your charts are the charts from ST3 without plugins.
I am talking about the charts which are presented by the Training Analysis Plugin
Within Training Analysis I cannot fit a section of the track to the window.
Within Training Analysis I can only fit the whole track to the window

Correct - for now. ST has added this 'fit to selection' later on, and the plugin still has to be adapted to this -> next version.
You can however zoom into an axis range using the mouse wheel while pointing over the axis. And you can pan by dragging the axis.

Thank you. My problem has been solved.
I did not have a mouse with a mousewheel connected.
Now I have.
