routes to courses to workouts?

Is it possible to run a route and change it into a workout? Example run a 5k route and have your garmin record HR/PACE/etc and change that information into a workout?

No, but that would be really cool.

How should this work? What would you expect that the workout should look like??

I do this manually from time to time. I take a race that I did and convert the elevation profile and time to a power workout. So if there's a climb that goes for 2 minutes, I'll put a 2 minute step of effort 130-150%FTP. Then it goes downhill for 40 seconds so I add 40 seconds of high cadence, etc...

Automating this will be challenging.

Let's see if I can clean this up a little bite. I would love to be able to do a workout lets got onto the track. Say repeat 400's with 2 minutes in between. I just want to do it as a starting point. Have my garmin record what I do. How fast I've done the 400's and how long that 2 minute joging rest was in between. I want to bring that data in to Garmin Fitness and have the workout generated so if needed I can make changes to whatever data I have. So I guess I'm just lazy or am I a genius, so instead of guessing what I should be running those 400's in I know how I can run those 400's in. I know I want to be at a certain time or % so I'm not just busting them out. Am I cleaning things up or mudding the waters?
