Thanks for the feedback. My interest is specifically the Firstbeat Athlete coaching program. Do you follow the program and has it been effective in your training? By following the program and loading the same activity data into ST, the Training Load plugin will give you a visual representation of your progress. I'm interested to determine if Firstbeat follows the same principals of build and taper as outlined by the Target Date Influence chart which TL generates.Your insight and opinion on FBA would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your comments on Firstbeat Athlete (FBA). I had looked at it a couple of years ago and couldn’t remember if you could set a target race date. Your first point confirmed my suspicion. Rather than a race focussed coaching program, FBA provides more of a general conditioning plan. I suppose you could use it in preparation for a race but then implement your own tapering program 1-3 weeks prior to a major race.
Your recent article on using FBA as a tool to suggest recovery days is a unique use of the program. Because FBA changes dynamically, based on your own workload, you could follow another training program and use FBA as a secondary check for future planned workout effort or rest (As you suggest in your article). http://the5krunner.com/2015/01/08/should-i-train-today-how-to-decide-using-firstbeat-sporttracks-bioforcehrv-garmin920xt/
As for you key objective of getting RR data from swimming - I must say I admire your determination. I’ve read your article on TICKR-X HRM. It’s an impressive piece of kit but unlike you, I don’t have the inclination or time to merge HR data to my swim Activities at this stage. I’m happy to wait and hope Garmin will come up with a similar solution for their triathlon and swim watches to be “complete” in capturing heart rate and RR data from all types of activities. I can’t see how they can ignore this development.
Thanks again for your input.
