Started with heart rate monitor again. Adjust TL initial

Postby hesher » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:27 am

Hi,

I've been running for while.
My heart rate monitor was defected and I bought a new one.
Now my CTL is not correct.
I use power runner with TSS too and the CTL there represents my fitness better.
Can I borrow the TSS CTL into my Trimp calculation as initial values?
(I know there is "initial ctl" in settings but at which date does it affect? I don't understand how it works and couldn't find documentation about it)

Thanks!

This is how I THINK it works ...

CTL represents a weighted average of your last 45 days of training load. Now if you've been running and not collecting or recording heart rate data, you are averaging a bunch of zeros. When you started with your new heart rate monitor you have one day of real data, and all those zeros dragging your CTL (artificially) low. You can set an 'initial' CTL value at whatever you think your true CTL is so that the calculated value gets closer to a true average sooner.

How to pick a number? If you have some heart rate data and calculated TRIMP data that reflects a couple of days of what your average workouts might have been over the last 45 days, than use your recent average TRIMP as the CTL ... or maybe use your ATL value as your initial CTL ...
