Stair climbing and ST/Training Load

Stair climbing and ST/Training Load

Postby przemyslaw.dygdon » Sat Jun 18, 2011 6:03 pm

Hi!
I'm doing intensive stair climbing (inside a building) training - in preparation for a mountain marathon. I'm wondering if anyone tried to force ST, and Training Load in particular, to 'recognise' this kind of training, when using just a GPS (Garmin 305)?

Would for example the footpod for Garmin help in addressing tihs somehow?

Do you use a HR monitor with your Garmin? TL calculates the TRIMP value from the HR and to my knowledge that should work as well inside.

And inside activities should be done with gps turned OFF.

Should be no different than using a Garmin with HRM indoors with a footpod. Turn the GPS off and the footpod will detect the cadence and set the pace while the HRM will capture the heart rate. The key is the HR not the footpod.

Once uploaded ST3 will have no difficulty assigning a TRIMP score for Training Load to track.

While I have never done this on a stair climber (a machine that Satan himself invented) I have done it many times on a treadmill with no problems.
