This section explains how to use the Daily Activity view in detail


What are the features of the Daily Activity view, how do I use them?


MLC= Mouse left click
DMLC= Double mouse left click
MRC= Mouse right click

Preliminary remarks

Daily Activity view is the "main" view/screen of SportTracks, see it as its central. It lists and displays your single activities per week in all details. It is usually the most used view and is the default view when launching SportTracks.

The Daily Activity core view consists of 4 parts: weekly list, summary/chart, route and menu. The 3 additional available parts/panels (calendar, navigation, other tasks menu) present are available also in all other views/screens.

Next post will describe first these "overall" menues/panels (calendar, navigation, other tasks menu), next post but one will explain how to adjust the window/panel sizes, and finally next post but two will explain the core features of the Daily Activity view alone.

What are the features of the Calendar, the Navigation menues, the Other Tasks menues, how do I use them?



1) Standard navigation menu leading to all available views/screens is located in the "Other Tasks"-menu bottom left. MLC "Select view" and select view where to go with MLC. Available views and corresponding FAQs:
  • Daily Activity.
  • Equipment (FAQ). Set up and track your equipment here.
  • Athlete (FAQ). Log and set up your "body" data here.
  • Activity Reports (FAQ). Analyze your workout history here.
  • Routes. Create routes here.
  • Categories (FAQ 1, FAQ 2). Define activity categories and zones sets of different values such as heartrate, power, etc. here.
  • Online. Browse the internet directly within SportTracks here.

2) A "quick navigation" bar is also available top right. It allows to switch to Daily Activity, Equipment, Athlete and Activity Reports view with MLC on the corresponding icon. MLC on the "forward/back"-icons allows to switch forth/back to the last used views (greyed out if unavailable); it works the same way as the corresponding feature available in internet browsers.


3) Selected day is highlighted. Days with entries are marked with a small, coloured frame and are bolded. Days where you were sick, injuried or missed a workout are marked with a red corner, see Athlete FAQ point 7)
The meaning of these framed, coloured markers is different, depending from the currently selected view/screen:
  • In Daily Activity view, they mark days with one or more activities.
  • In Activity Reports view, they mark days with one or more activities, which are ACTUALLY present in your Activity Reports list. So if you reduced your list with searching, filtering etc., only these days will be marked in the calendar.
  • In Athlete view, they mark all days with at least one entry (weight, sick, etc.).
  • In Equipment, (create) Route, Categories, Online, Settings page/view, calendar is without any markers.
To select a specific day, just MLC it. It will be the "valid" day in all views/screens. To change year/month:
  • 3) MLC left/right arrows in the top month header or move mouse pointer into calender panel and use the mouse wheel to scroll forward/backward the month.
  • 4) MLC top month header. List will change to months alone. MLC top or bottom header with arrow or use mouse wheel to scroll forward/backward the month. MLC the wished month to select it and to return into day list mode. As soon as you move your mouse pointer outside the calendar panel, the calendar will switch back automatically into day list mode. Note also the point markers left of the months: they indicate how many entries these months contain (no points="none", then from 1 point="few" to 4 points="a lot").

Select view

Navigate/switch to almost all available views/screens of SportTracks. Explained in point 1).


Allows data import from files or directly from connected devices. SportTracks supports direct import from many devices of different brands; there are also some third party plugins allowing import from even more devices.
See also the Importing Activities FAQ, they explain many details and special cases of the import.
The following descriptions cover the standard import procedure.

5) In the "Other Tasks"-menu, MLC "Import", a window will open. Now make a first preselection, choose between import from files OR devices with MLC on the corresponding icons.

Import of files:
6) Select folder/location containing the files with MLC on the second last icon top right. A file browser opens. Expand/contract parent folders with ONE MLC on the "+"/"-" icons, browse up/down the file list with MLC and hold on the slider on the right. Select final folder with MLC. Note: navigation with doubleclick does NOT work in this window.
7) MLC "Up one folder"-icon to change to the parent folder of your current location. And so on.
8 ) As alternative, you can enter/paste a folder path directly into the path field and then hit "Enter"-key to select it.
9) Optionally select file type to be listed with MLC on the corresponding dropdown menu.
10) Move up/down your file list with MLC and hold on the slider on the right. Select single file with MLC. Selection of several files at once also works here. MLC file, then hit "Shift"-key and hold and MLC another file for a "from...to" selection. MLC file, then hit "Ctrl"-key and hold, MLC another file, and so on, for a selection of nonadjacent files.
11) Finally, MLC "Next" to proceed.

Import directly from devices:
12) Select "Devices"-icon according to 5), then MLC the "Show all Devices"-icon ("+"). Available devices to import from will be listed. Select your device with MLC.
13) Once you have imported data from a particular device, this device will be listed in the menu "Show my devices", MLC corresponding "star"-icon. All device models you previously imported from will be listed. MLC a device, the "red cross"-icon on the right allows to remove it.

14) Select a particular device with MLC. Now with MLC on the "Device Settings"-icon, you can choose/set some settings influencing the import, notably a time offset in hours for some devices possibly not synched with your time zone. These settings will be valid for all upcoming imports of that specific device until you change them. Confirm with MLC on "OK".
15) Finally, MLC "Next" to proceed. Available data will be downloaded from your device, this can take a while.

Creation or update of activities, modification of imported activities:
16) Now, no matter how you imported (from file/from device), a new window listing the imports will be displayed. Now check/uncheck wanted/unwanted activities to finally be imported with MLC on the checkbox left of each activity. Use the slider on the right to move up/down the list with MLC and hold. Already imported activities will be unchecked by default. Confirm with MLC on "Next".

17) Now review activity details. First decide if you want to create a new OR update an activity. Intended import action is indicated in the list on top. Here, first select each activitiy in with MLC, then choose "Import Action" with MLC in the corresponding checkboxes.

18 ) If you choose to create a new activity, some fields are editable. You can change date, start time and category here, determine the equipment, weather, location and name. Select in the dropdown menues with MLC or MLC the fields and set your entries. For the date, alternatively MLC "calendar"-icon, a calendar where to choose the date with MLC will pop up.
Category and location can be set to be prefilled, see Settings FAQ point 7).
Location or name dropdown menues will contain all previously assigned entries. But you still can enter also a new entry manually.
Available entries for equipment must be predefined in the Equipment view, see Equipment FAQ.
Weather details will be retrieved and filled in automatically here if in your Settings point 8 ) you have set up a weather station. If not, optionally fill in manually, weather conditions can be set in the dropdown menu, MLC the "?"-icon for this.
Click "Finish" on bottom to conclude the import process of ALL listed activities. Your imported activities will appears in the lists etc. now.

Note: if you import an activity already present in the logbook, this will not replace the activity, but still import it, so you will have 2 identical activities then.

19) If you have chosen to update an activity: first you must select the activity ("date") to be updated with MLC on the dropdown menu.
20) In a second step now choose which data shall be updated by checking/unchecking corresponding checkboxes with MLC. Checkboxes of unavailable data type will be greyed out. Alerts if existing data will be replaced will warn you about this.
"Adjust data start time": use it (MLC "yes"-checkbox) notably when joining data from different devices. This will keep the start time of the activity to be updated and set the same start time for the data to be imported, this data will be attached with its elapsed time to the kept start time.
Click "Finish" on bottom to conclude the import process of ALL listed activities. Your imported activities will appears in the lists etc. now.

  • If you intend to join data of the same activity, but from different devices (for example GPS an power), it is recommended to use the update feature described, it is the easiest way to do this.
  • update speed? (coming soon)


21) Open, save or create a new logbook here with MLC on the corresponding entry. You can set up as many logbooks as you want, but only one of them can be opened/loaded at once; when opening a logbook, a possibly previously opened logbook will be closed.

22) Saving a loogbok will just save it, you can't choose folder/location where to save here, you have to set this up in the Settings point 9)
23) Opening a logbook will launch a standard file browser for selection. You can select type of files here, the dialog allows also to open logbooks of the old SportTracks version 1.x.

24) Creating a new logbook will launch a dialog where you must define/preset athlete name, date of birth (optionally use the calendar on the right with MLC to select), height and weight. MLC the fields and enter your values. You can change these settings later in the Athlete view.
Also select the activity categories to be included in the new logbook by checking/unchecking checkboxes left of the single entries with MLC. Expand/contract available categories with MLC on the "+"/"-" icons. Confirm logbook creation with MLC on "OK".

Note: athlete name will be used by default to name the logbook, so if you set up several logbooks, you will have to differentiate your name somehow.


25) View/screen, where almost all changeable settings of SportTracks can be set/modified. Explained in detail in the Settings FAQ.

How can I adjust / resize the Daily Activity window / panels?


31) Move the mouse pointer somewhere into the header of the SportTracks window. Here MLC and hold; you can now move the hole window with drag and drop.
32) Move the mouse pointer over any edge or any corner of the SportTracks window. Pointer will change into a double arrow. Here MLC and hold, then drag and drop to adjust the window size.
33) Move mouse pointer over shown separator lines; pointer will change into a double arrow. Then MLC and hold, drag and drop to adjust the size of the panels / panels combinations. In the summary panel, there is no such separator line, but there will be one in all charts between the graph and its zones list.
34) Graphs in the chart panel and the route panel can also be expanded. Cycle MLC the corresponding expansion icons to expand/contract. The panels will fill the lower half of the window, in the chart panel, the zones list will be hidden.
35) The Daily Activity menu can be contracted/expanded with MLC on the "arrow"-icon right in the header. This is possible also in the menues of all other views.


36) You can hide the hole column on the left containing the calendar, the menu, the other tasks menu. Move mouse pointer over the separator line; a point&arrow icon will appear. MLC now, left column will be hidden. To restore, move mouse pointer to the left edge of the window, icon will appear again, then MLC.
Note: this feature is available in ALL SportTracks views.

What are the core features of the Daily Activity view, how do I use them?


Daily Activity List

41) The Daily Activity list displays all your activities of one week chronologically and show its details.
In the lower part, you get a summary/total of "this" and "last" week respectively month, which refers to the week/month of your CURRENTLY selected day/activity.
If you have more than one activity in a day, in the list you will get also a summary/total line for that day.
The summaries/totals in principle will show sums or averages. See this FAQ point 17) for the details of the summary/total lines and notably its maximum values.

42) You can adjust the width of the columns: move mouse pointer over a separator line in the values header, it will change into a double arrow; now MLC and hold, then drag and drop to wished width.

43) Begin of the week is defined in the Settings point 3), in the list AND weekly summaries/totals this will be handled accordingly. Also the week rows of the calendar will begin with the set day of the week.

44) Begin of chosen week is displayed on top of the list. To move forward and back in time in weekly steps, MLC the corresponding "arrow"-icons. MLC the "today"-icon to select the current day.
Date can also be selected in the calendar panel on the left, see this FAQ point 3)&4), the corresponding week of the chosen day will be displayed.

45) To select an activity, just MLC the corresponding row in the list, corresponding day will be highlighted in the calendar on the left. You can select also a date in the calendar with MLC, if it contains just one activity, it will be directly selected. If that day contains more than one activity, first (=earliest) activity will be selected. In the list, you can select only ONE activity at once, multiple selection is not possible here.


46) You can choose the values (=columns) to be displayed in the list. MRC somewhere in the list, then MLC "List Settings"; an new window "List Settings" will open.

47) On the left you have all "available" values listed, on the right the values which will be displayed in the list. Use the sliders right of the columns with MLC and hold to scroll up and down the values lists; mouse wheel also works to scroll.
To add values to your list, select the corresponding value on the left with MLC, then MLC the "Add Column"-icon to add it on the right. Or DMLC a value, it will be added on the right at once. You can also select several values on the right: MLC value, push "Shift"-key and hold, then MLC another value, this will perform a from...to selection. MLC value, push "Ctrl"-key and hold, MLC another value, and so on, will select nonadjacent values. Add all values on the right with MLC on the "Add Column"-icon then.
To remove values from your list, on the right side use the same procedure as described above, just use the "remove"-icon here. DMLC for instant moving also works here.

48 ) On the right, you can also adjust the order of appearance of the values (=columns) in your list. Top entry will appear as leftmost column in the list, and so on. Select a value with MLC, then move it upwards/downwards with MLC on the "arrow"-icons to place it into wished order.

49) Optionally choose one or more fixed columns in the dropdown menu with MLC. Its order of appearance corresponds to your actual order on the right side. This will fix the chosen columns, so in case you have many values (=columns) in your list and have to move them with the slider on bottom of the list in order to see them all, the fixed columns on the left will always be displayed.

50) Note: Among the "available" Values, you will see some grouped sets with a cursive header. DMLC the cursive header to expand/contract its available values. These sets are:
  • Values of (own) set up zones of heartrate, cadence, etc.. See description in the Zone Categories FAQ how to set them up etc..
  • Active/rest laps values. These values refer to active/rest laps as described in the Splits/laps FAQ points 5)&6).
51) Confirm the window with MLC on "OK".


52) Filtering by activity category

A sometimes overseen feature. In the header of the list, you can filter by categories with MLC in the dropdown menu. Only activities of the chosen category will be listed, also weekly/monthly summaries will be calculated exclusively for the chosen category.


Summary panel

Gives you the main details of the selected activity.

53) In principle you can choose to have SportTracks calculating the values (distance, averages, etc.) of activities based on the import data from devices, OR you can enter own determined values manually. By default, at import from devices/of files, SportTracks will calculate these values on its own.
MLC the calculator icon on the right of the summary panel, then choose "calculated" or "manual"; this is a generic trigger valid for the hole activity. If you choose to enter manual values, most fields still will be prefilled with the values calculated by SportTracks, but are ready to be edited/overwritten now. Editable values are also available in the chart panels.
Read on in the manually entered values FAQ, everything about "manual" values is described in detail there.

54) You can change date and start time entering/overwriting it manually, DMLC the fields, then edit. Or MLC on the "calendar"-icon to select a date here. MLC the arrows in the header to move forth and back in the monts or use the mouse wheel for this. Finally, select the date with MLC.
Note: this works also in the "calculate" mode, no need to switch to the "manual" mode as described in 53).

55) Change category here if required with MLC in the dropdown menu. Expand/contract subcategories with MLC on the "+/-" icons. Notes:
  • In the Settings point 7) you can set the category to be prefilled at import.
  • You can rename categories or set up an unlimited number of additional, own categories, see the Activity Categories FAQ for details, you are not forced to use the default set of categories.

56) Enter a location manually for your activity or select a previously entered one from the dropdown menu with MLC. Scroll the list with MLC on the arrows in the slider bar or with MLC and hold on the slider. Notes:
  • In the Settings point 7) you can also set the location to be prefilled at import.
  • All previously entered unique locations will be available in the dropdown menu. So you better work out a systematic handling of the location names (for example startpoint: loop: detour: town etc.), or your list will grow up to no end, making it difficult to keep the overview or to be able to differentiate. This will be also an advantage in the Activity Reports view, since you can search activites by location there.
  • The list of previously entered locations can NOT be edited, all unique entries will be added to the list continously. You must delete a particular location in ALL corresponding activities in order to have it removed from the list.

57) Calculated energy (=calories) can be overtaken from devices, but also be calculated based on SportTracks own algorithms. By default, SportTracks will overtake the values from the devices (if available). MLC the "calculator"-icon once, the SportTracks own value will be calculated. The value can also be overwritten manually.
  • This trigger is independent from the automatic/manual values trigger as described in 53), the energy value can also be overwritten anytime regardless of the actual chosen calculation "mode".
  • For the SportTracks own energy calculations, there are available different algorithms which depend from the sport type. You can assign these algorithms to the categories, see the Activity Categories FAQ.
  • Unit can be changed between Kilojoules and Calories, see the Settings FAQ point 3).
For details, read on in the "manual values" FAQ points 7)&9) as well as in the calories FAQ, and also take note of this Athlete FAQ entry.

58 ) Automatic weather data is filled in at import, if set up so in the Settings point 8 ). You still can fill in or overwrite manually in the available fields. You can select weather conditions in the dropdown menu with MLC.
If you set up the weather to be filled in automatically at import (with basic SportTracks World Weather), you will have a forecast of 5 days in the list (beginning with the day of your last import, not the date of your last imported activity!), if you display the "Weather" value (=column). Weather conditions and min./max. temperature will be shown. These values will be overwritten later with the valid, "final" data of the activity's day as well as for days without activities.
By default, first field is filled with the temperature, second field with additional informations, which are available with some third party plugins. Units (Degree Celsius/Fahrenheit) have to be set in the Settings point 3).

59) Select the equipment associated to an activity in the dropdown menu with MLC and check the corresponding boxes with MLC. For this, you prior have to set up your equipment sets in the Equipment view, see the Equipment FAQ for a detailed description. If you include pics for your equipment parts, also its icons will be displayed in the dropdown menu.

60) Name and notes fields. Enter your text here to describe your activity. Or use them to log some values for which there is no specific field available.
For the name, you can enter manually some text for your activity or select a previously entered one from the dropdown menu with MLC. Scroll the list with MLC on the arrows in the slider bar or with MLC and hold on the slider.
  • You can search for text within these both fields in the Activity Reports point 7) to 11). Therefore, also here make sure to apply some system in your names and notes in order to remember their meaning, keep the overview and to be able to find them again.
  • For the name, all previous entered unique descriptions will be available in the dropdown menu. Also here, you can not edit this list, you have to delete a particular entry from ALL corresponding activities to remove it from the list.

Daily Activity Menu

61) The Daily Activity menu provides tools (greyed out if not available) to handle the single activities. Before using them, you MUST select a particular day or activity according to 44), the chosen menu will be applied to that selected day/activity.

62) Add activity: this is used if you want to add MANUALLY an activity to your logbook. The activity will be set automatically to "manual" values, see point 53). MLC entry, then enter your values in the summary and/or chart panel fields. Optionally, you can add manually a route in the route panel.
Note: the standard way to go to add activities to your logbook is to import them, see points 5) to 20) above, not to add them with this menu.

63) Remove activity: MLC entry will remove the selected activity or day from the logbook. No UNDO available! You can remove only ONE activity or an entire day (select with MLC the day's summary line in the list for this) at once.
Note: you can remove several activities at once in the Activity Reports point 6).

64) Edit activity: offers some features to edit activities.
  • Copy: MLC will duplicate the selected activity, it will be listed in the list of the Daily Activity view and in the Activity Reports view.
  • Data Tracks: MLC will open a new window, allowing you to edit your data tracks (like heartrate, elevation etc.). Usually used to correct some single points (spikes etc.). Explained in detail in this Editing FAQ entry.
  • Split: MLC also here will open a new window, where you can split up your activity. Explained in detail in this Editing FAQ entry.
Note: several plugins also use this menu for their own menu entries.

65) Export activity: offers some features to export an activity, notably to Google Earth. You can export a single activity OR an entire day with all its activities (select with MLC the day's summary line in the list for this).
  • Fitness log: this is the SportTracks own format. A standard OS dialog will be launched, where you can choose the save location.
  • Google Earth: exports in the corresponding format (*.kml). You can launch the exported file directly in Google Earth if you have installed it locally. MLC will open a window where you can set additional options in dropdown menues etc., notably include data tracks (heartrate etc.) as well as split markers.
    Note: Some plugins, for example the Dobrou Extensions plugin and the Apply Routes plugin, enable a Google Earth view directly within the route panel of SportTracks.
  • GPX file: this is a widely used format allowing to use the data in many different applications. Beside the GPS track, also all available data tracks (heartrate etc.) are exported. A standard OS dialog will be launched, where you can choose the save location.
Note: also here, some plugins use this menu for their own export features. Note also that the *.gpx format is not throughoutly defined, so some applications may have problems to interprete a part of the data.

Chart / graphs panels

SportTracks, in its charts/graphs, offers an excellent visualisation for your training data with a lot of features.

66) FIRST, select the workout type with MLC on the "arrow"-icon top right of the summary panel and select the chart/graph to be displayed. For instance, separate panels for splits, speed OR pace, elevation, workout (=heartrate), cadence and power are available.
67) SECOND, select the type of graph (over distance, over time etc.) with MLC on the "arrow"-icon top right of the chart. The available types of graphs depend from the selected workout.
68 ) All chart panels consist of 3 parts. On top the main data, the zones (or splits) details in the middle and the chart/graph on bottom.
69) The size of the graph part can be adjusted, move your mouse pointer over the separator line, it will change into a double arrow, them MLC and hold and move to adjust.


70) In the zones part, you can change the values (=columns) to be displayed. MRC somewhere in the zone, then select "Settings" with MLC. Then select values, appearance order, etc.. Handling is the same as described in point 46) to 50).
71) You can also switch between different zone sets (if you have set up more than one set). MRC somewhere in the zone, then MLC "Show zones" and finally select wished zone with MLC. The procedure to set up different zone sets is explained in the Zone Categories FAQ.

72) Many features to zoom, move, visualisation in the route panel etc. are available. Read on in the Graphs FAQ explaining all details.

Route panel

73) SportTracks can display the route of your trainings on the background of different maps. Several plugins offer additional maps. Start and end points are marked with special icons, also icons indicating pauses and split locations as well as detail informations of single points can be displayed.
74) Select the type of map to be displayed with MLC on the "arrow"-icon top right of the route panel.
75) On top left, you can choose between 3 modes. Notably the "Edit"-mode allows to edit the route.
