Wrong TSS for activites from Garmin Connect

Wrong TSS for activites from Garmin Connect

Postby jonasxeri » Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:11 pm

Since some time (approx. a month) the TSS value that is calculated by Training Load is to high (about 10%) when an activity is synced through Garmin Connect. If I import the same activity directly from my Edge 820, the TA plugin displays the correct value. I think this a problem in the TA plugin since the Training Load plugin displays the correct TSS in both cases. I suspect the problem may be the effect of an update of the Garmin firmware. I'm running the latest 8.0 version.

I never import activities from Garmin Connect
And have therefore never experienced this problem

I do know you have to use the same value for FTP in your Edge, Connect and TA

Another point of interest might be the applied smoothing
TA does not apply smoothing on your power track

The FTP setting in Garmin Connect was not the same as the value in TA and the Edge unit. I've updated the Connect value and will check if it has any effect after my next ride. But the TSS value displayed in Connect is the same as the value displayed in the Edge. The same value is also calculated by the Training Load plugin, so it seems strange if the Connect setting should only affect TA.

I've done some more tests and the problem has nothing to do with Garmin Connect. The problem exists for all activities that are synced into ST3 from SportTracks.mobi.
