New Garmin Vector Power Metrics

New Garmin Vector Power Metrics

Postby Lynchk » Wed Apr 16, 2014 11:31 pm

The latest Vector software release captures two new power metrics - Torque Effectiveness (TE) and Pedal Smoothness (PS). Can these be incorporated into Training Analysis?

These two measures are not (yet) supported by TA plugin.
However they can be displayed in Custom Data Tracks plugin, provided that you've imported the activities with Garmin FIT Devices plugin.

Downloaded Custom Data Tracks Plugin V3 and when I tried to activate it on a trial basis, I got a message saying " You're running a trial version of Custom Data Tracks Plugin V3 that is valid until 4/21/2014." Do you have a new trial license I can use?

I'm not sure I'll be able to get the power metrics from my Edge 800. I know the 800 won't display those metrics but I haven't gotten a clear response from Garmin if the 800 will record the metrics to the FIT file. Probably a plot to force users to buy the latest and greatest computer.

OK, I've installed the Custom Data Tracks plugin and looked under the Custom Data Tracks detail page but didn't see Torque Effectiveness (TE) or Pedal Smoothness (PS). If the Edge 800 is recording these metrics, should they show up on the detail page? I imported the activities with Garmin FIT Devices plugin.

They should show up - if they are present in the .FIT file.
If you attach a zipped .FIT file that should contain TE/PS data, I'll have a look.

There's no torque effectiveness nor pedal smoothness data in your file, just the left/right balance.
Seems that Garmin kindly invites you to upgrade to the edge 810 in order to get these

Hello OMB, I'd like to revisit this post. I've upgraded my Vector Pedals to Vector 2 and purchased the new Edge 820. I've uploaded a couple of work outs to Garmin Connect and the "cycling dynamics" data is shown. I don't see Torque Effectiveness (TE) or Pedal Smoothness (PS) listed in Garmin Connect. I also don't see them listed in SportTracks Custom Data Fields. Do you have any plans to incorporate the cycling dynamics to Training Analysis?

They already are (for quite a while).
You need Garmin FIT Devices plugins to import your .fit files plus Custom Data Tracks plugins, which provides the "buckets", where GFD plugins can store these tracks.

I think I'm already using the GFD plugin, but maybe I'm not using it correctly. The 820 doesn't show up as a device. Should I be importing the .FIT files directly?

No, this screenshot doesn't show GFD plugin - for sure. Please check the plugin's catalog page and/or online manual @ sporttracks-plugins.com .
