Different Power Zones for cycling and running?

Different Power Zones for cycling and running?

Postby donws » Mon Jul 09, 2012 5:36 pm

I use GPSToPowerTrack to calculate power for both cycling and running workouts. My power output is always higher for running than cycling (better trained runner) and I'm wondering if it is possible to configure different power zones in Training Analysis for each sport?

I can see under SelectView->Categories->Training Analysis Plugin where I can configure the FTP and multiple zone sets, but how do I assign a particular power zone configuration to be used for a given sport/category? Under SelectView->Categories->Activity Categories, it's possible to configure pace/speed and HR zones per category, but power zones aren't represented here. Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious?

Thanks,
Don

No, you're overlooking nothing.
Unlike heart rate and speed, ST does not provide power zones per category.

OMB, thanks! Doesn't this plug-in leverage a user's FTP to calculate IF, TSS, etc.? Even though default power zones can't be set per category, is it possible to specify a different FTP perhaps individually per activity?

Using the same FTP for both sports results in incomparible statistics. I'm a better trained runner so I think my "FTP" should be set higher for this sport. When I configure a FTP value that is more appropriate for cycling the stats for running are inflated. (e.g., a relatively easy 5.25 mile run yesterday returned an IF of 1.09 because my average and normalized power exceeded my specified FTP.

Thanks,
Don

Currently the plugin only considers one single FTP - regardless of activity category.
Maybe sport specific FTPs will be added in a future version.

Thanks, that would be a great addition.

I got to a point where I miss this would-be feature. Since my FTP seems to be 50% higher (which may be the case for quasi everybody) than cycling FTP, it is distorted to see the power zone percentages relative to FTP.

Did you spend some time about it? Your feelings about this amendment are .... ?

Thanks
Cheers,
