Correlation Tab

Correlation Tab

Postby GrittyGoober » Fri Dec 23, 2011 7:38 pm

I suspect this is a feature request. However, if I missed something in the manual, please let me know. I am referring to the quadrant graph in the Correlation tab.

Using averages for the quadrant values (x-axis and y-axis intercepts) provides good information. However, it would be useful to be able to adjust those values. Saving the values would be great too.

For example, I am interested in viewing quadrant results of a ride based on my last time trial values. This allows me to easily compare the ride to my last time trial quadrants. If my entered time trial values were saved, then it would be very easy to compare ride after ride against my benchmark.

Are there plans to tweak this a little?

OK. I'll check out your plugin again in the future some time. Right now it is about 95% there. Unfortunately, that last 5% is pretty important. Thus far each feature I have explored in detail looks pretty good until I run into an odd implementation decision or two that takes away a lot of the value. QA that won't let you set your own quadrants, and HR zones not based on time trial tested LTHR are the straws that broke the camel's back for me.

I have got same problem.

How is CPV calculated?
I could not find any documentation about CPV in the manual.

The calculated value (1.42) makes no sense in my case.
I prefer to ride with cadence=105 , most of the time, which should make CPV=1.86 m/sec

CPV[m/s] = cadence[rpm]/60 * 2 * Pi * crank_length[m];
Your calculation of 1.86m/s for 105rpm is correct - provided the crank length is 170mm.
However I cannot reproduce your problem. CPV is spot on for me.

Please add a screen shot of the chart with WRONG values, showing cpv, cadence and the crank length (which is part of the CPV axis label).

I have to apologize for the way I have put my problem.
The CPV is calculated in a correct way.

But I do not understand how the quadrants in the correlation chart are assessed.
None of my activities have values in Q2 or Q3
The vertical line in the correlationchart is set for CPV=1.42
Averaging does not change this value.

Ah, now I understand.
The red hyperbolic line is the FTP line (I'm sure you're aware that CPV[m/s]*PedalForce[N] = Power[Nm/s]).
Dots below that line mean that you performed below your FTP, above ...

The center point of the quadrants is the intersection of the FTP line with the CPV that corresponds to a cadence of 80 rpm (fix!).
As your screen shot shows (hardly any dots in Q2 and Q3), this was an activity with high cadence.

I remember you once wrote in a post :
"If you don't have a clue, make it configurable."
For one plugin (weather) I decided to follow this approach and ended up with a settings page brimming with check boxes.

I can understand your point of view.
But I still think the cadence should be a variable.
I think that is what GrittyGroober meant in her post dated Sat Dec 24, 2011 1:38 am

When I correlate Power/HeartRate/whatever and Cadence, TA will calculate some average for the Cadence.
Then I get four quadrants with valuable information.
I like that.
Why not when I correlate CPV en AEPF ?

AEPF Average Effective Pedal Force.
TA is a very complete plugin.
It would be wonderful if I had to use no other plugins than TA.
The more plugins, the more confusion about abbreviations.
Unfortunately TA does not always provide me what I need.
See my post.
