TCX Export Plugin

Thanks. That cleared things up a bit for me.
I've done everything in your post, however I don't get an email sent, nor does a log file get created.

I extracted blat to C:\utils
I created a batch file named sendtcxtostrava.bat
I filled it with the following (with the parameters changed - password I've hidden in this text)

@echo off
:::::::::::::: Lets set some variables ::::::::::::::
set toMail=cclackerz@gmail.com
set eMail=cclackerz@gmail.com
set subj=-s "tcx file"
set server=-server smtp.gmail.com -port 587 -u cclackerz -pw ********
set x=-x "X-Header-Test: Can Blat do it? Yes it Can!"
set debug=-debug -log blat.log -timestamp
::::::::::::::::: Now we run Blat! :::::::::::::::::
blat c:\utils\body.txt -attach %1 -to %toMail% -f %eMail% %subj% %server% %debug% %x%

I created a body.txt file with a small bit of text in it - saved in the C:\utils folder

I then created a test.txt file and dropped it onto the sendtcxtostrava.bat file

Did I miss something?

Maybe c:\utils is not in your $PATH, you might have to change the last line to c:\utils\blat.exe c:\utils\body.txt .....
You can also open up a cmd.exe window, cd into c:\utils and type "sendtcxtostrava.bat file.txt" at the prompt to see what's going on, it might say command not found or something.
If you run it without arguments it should spit out:

c:\utils>sendtcxtostrava.bat
Blat v3.0.2 (build : Apr 8 2012 23:20:30)
32-bit Windows, Full, Unicode

Blat found fault with: -attach

-attach <file> : attach binary file(s) to message (filenames comma separated)

c:\utils>

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm still having issues here :?

I changed the last line to:
blat c:\utils\blat.exe c:\utils\body.txt -attach %1 -to %toMail% -f %eMail% %subj% %server% %debug% %x%
Saved the file and dropped my text file in - didn't work (no email or log file)

I opened a cmd window and at c:\utils>
typed: sendtcxtostrava.bat file.txt
and received the message: 'blat' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

OK. so I copied all the files from the 'full' folder into the c:\utils folder.
Now when I run the cmd:
cd c:\utils>
typed: sendtcxtostrava.bat

I get a log file that contains the following message:

2012.07.09 18:36:17 (Mon)------------Start of Session-----------------
Blat v3.0.6 (build : Jun 21 2012 23:53:24)
64-bit Windows, Full, Unicode
Blat saw and processed these options, and was confused by the last one...
c:\utils\body.txt
Do not understand argument: c:\utils\body.txt
2012.07.09 18:36:17 (Mon)-------------End of Session------------------

BTW I am running a 64bit on Win7. My other PC is a 32bit Win7, but is not with me at the moment to try it out.

OK got a little further...
at the cd c:\utils
sendtcxtostrava.bat body.txt

In the log file I get:

From what I can see there are issues with the AUTH LOGIN and SMTP server doesn't like the sender name.

I'll continue to work it out

Should be:
c:\utils\blat.exe c:\utils\body.txt -attach %1 -to %toMail% -f %eMail% %subj% %server% %debug% %x%

but you probably already figured that out.

At this stage I cannot get this to work.

I think I'll just upload my activities to strava using their upload option after exporting the tcx file from the plugin to my laptop.
Not sure why I can't get this to work, but it complains about the sender name - I'm using a gmail account. I've even tried to send it to my work email (with the from email being the gmail one). Also I have another web email account and that doesn't work either.

This is the results I get every time:

Don't give up yet. Try -u cclackerz@gmail.com (is it 1 c or 2 c)? Or try port 465?
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answ ... swer=13287
Lastly, search for blat and stunnel, you may need stunnel, though I'm not sure why I didn't need it.
Let me go back and check my script and log to make sure I didn't overlook anything.

Thanks. Actually I had already tried changing the username to the full email address, and also changed the port to the one mentioned - I got a time out doing that.
I'll have a look at stunnel, i've seen it mentioned when i've googled gmail and blat.
I'd appreciate if you could check you're settings as well.

To be honest, I'm not sure why mine works when it probably shouldn't, maybe since I'm in the US and not AU, it's less strict?:

I changed my machine name to "machine" and my username to "user.name" and IP but everything else is directly from the log. (I had -u user.name not -u user.name@gmail.com)

Thanks again for all your help, however I just can't get it to work.
I started looking at stunnel, but to be honest, it just confused me even more with the stunnel.conf settings.
No matter what I do I just get the same error with the senders name. I don't think it's a google thing as I tried a couple of other webmail accounts using their smtp settings.
I'm 100% sure it's something to do with what I'm doing (or not doing), but I can't put my finger on it.

Hmmm - I'm not aware of any remaining problems regarding this issue...
Are you sure you unchecked the checkbox "Include Trailrunner specifics to TCX file" during the export to TCX ?

If this setting is correct and you still discover problems, then please send me your original activity causing the problem and the TCX file you are trying to upload to the Garmin website.
Maybe I can see/debug any issues with these informations.

Just a hint for all:

If anybody runs into problems with the TCX file import to the Garmin Connect Website: Please try to uncheck the checkbox "Add following device name to exported activities" during the TCX file export. It seems, that the Garmin Connect Website is incompatible with the device_t type information inside the TCX files.

Can anyone tell me why when I export a gpx file and a tcx file and upload them both to garmin connect (for a 5k) the gpx file shows the distance 5.01km (near enough correct) but the tcx file shows the distance 4.77k? I prefer to use tcx because it contains the heart rate data but I need an accurate distance. If I look in the tcx file I can see the distance figure in it - 4769 but where is this coming from?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Difficult to say without having the datasets ;)

Could you please upload the original Sporttracks logfile, the GPX file and the TCX file of this activity and send me a PM, if you don't want to push it to the public ? Maybe I can find what's the reason for the difference. You are using the newest version of the plugin ?

Thanks, how do I get the original Sporttracks logfile? The original data comes from the plugin to access my watch Globalstar GH-625. I'm using the version with the batch job option which I think is the latest.

Re: TCX Export Plugin - Activity Name

Postby RobGun » Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:09 am

Is it possible to get the Activity Name into Garmin Connect using your plugin?

I am quite happy with the functionality, first tool I can get my Polar RS800cx activities into Garmin Connect and they show almost perfect.
- I am missing the activities name
- pace calculations are different from what ST show, peaks are higher on GC and also unrealistically high

Garmin does not support an Activity Name field in GC's use of tcx for Import or GC export.

Pace calculations may be different due to different smoothing settings in ST vs the device vs Garmin Connect.

This is a great plugin, because when I export *.gpx tracks in SportTracks I loose information about HeartBeat. Now I can fix the elevation in SportTracks and save a backup of my tracks! :D

However, in this *.ctx format there is no information about MaxSpeed (and that info is present in the Garmin *.fit files).

Some sugestions for improvement:
1 - Include MaxSpeed info
2 - Include the Name of the Track
3 - An option to export multiple tracks at once, but saving each one into a separate file

Great work.

The possibility to export the name of the activity is already implemented. Simply check the box "Include Trailrunner specifics to TCX file". But the problem with this is (and the same is true for "MaxSpeed"-Info), that the official TCX documentation/specification did not specify fields for these parameters and putting them into the file will therefore break compatibility with other TCX programs.

Or do you use a program which supports official extensions to the TCX file? If yes, then please let me know how these programs support the MaxSpeed and Name of Track information.

The idea with exporting to multiple files is a good one - I put this onto my todo list and integrate it into a future version!

No, I do not use a program which supports official extensions to the TCX file. I just assumed that if those informations could be transferred in a FIT file, they could also be transferred in a TCX file.

Thanks for the explanation. :)

I'm not using a HRM, but when I exported my activity as a TCX to upload to Strava, it had an HR of 1 listed for the entire ride, and I think this was giving appearances I'd rather not see in Strava. Is there anyway to skip or zero out the HR in the export?

If you goto edit datatracks does the HR track shows a dot somwhere? If yes delete it and export to tcx if not there's might be an issue whit the plugin.

If you are using the mobi option as well then there is a great service called Tapiriik (https://tapiriik.com/). This will synch workouts between different services. I have my mobi driving the synch outwards to most of the services provided, just be careful to do initial synch one service at a time as it may take a while. They charge $2US to do your synching automatically after the first manual synch. Bargain.
For me this works brilliantly. ST desktop => ST mobi => Garmin, Strava, Runkeeper & Dropbox all in one hit.
