Customizing list columns

Go to the Daily Activity view and, using the calendar, find an activity you are interesting in looking at in more detail. For a quick overview of the essential details of your workouts, use the list at the top of the view. At a glance you can see the date, time, distance, pace and location in comparison with other workouts during the week. To customize the columns which are showing in the list, click the Settings button in the upper right corner of the list heading.

The List Settings window lets you select which columns you want to see in the list and the order of the columns. Most of the lists can be customized with the Settings button. Some lists will have additional display options relevant to the particular list such as grouping, etc. From the main window view you you can increase or decrease the size of a column by clicking and dragging the vertical line between column heading names. Some lists can be sorted by the data in a column. If this option is available, the pointer will change to a hyperlink in the column header; click the column header to alternate between ascending and descending order.

Activity details on the summary page

Change to the Summary page of the activity detail area by clicking the page selector button in the left of the header area. On the Summary page you will find the essential details such as date, time, duration, distance, pace, category, etc. Most of this data can be changed from this page.

The display of pace or speed is based on the pace/speed setting for the activity's category. Typically you will use pace for running and speed for cycling.

The Climb field shows the total ascend and descend for the workout in feet (US) or meters (metric) calculated from the elevation data on the GPS track. The calculation of these values is subject to both the track smoothing setting and climb zones which have been defined (both of these can be changed in the Settings > Analysis window).

Below the Climb field the Stopped time is displayed. Stopped time includes any time that the GPS stopwatch was paused, where a rest interval was active during an interval workout, or where your speed fell below the Stopped setting in the Settings > Analysis window. If you have not selected the analysis option to include stopped time, the total workout time will be equal to Time + Stopped time.

The Fastest Pace field shows the fastest instantaneous pace during the activity subject to the setting for track smoothing seconds. This is the lowest point (or the highest point if speed is displayed) in the pace/speed chart.

Note that the Ascend, Descend, and Fastest values are highly sensitive to inconsistencies in the GPS data, and you should not put too much emphasis on the accuracy of these values.

Split analysis

Change to the Splits page of the activity detail area. At the top of the view, each split is displayed in a list along with pace, climb and heart-rate statistics. Select which columns you want to see in the splits list and change the column order by clicking the Settings button.

In the upper left corner of the splits list heading is a selector for the split distance. You can create custom time- or distance-based splits, or select a predefined split distance such as 0.5 mile, 1 mile, 1 km, or 5km.

Below the split list is a chart of the splits, from which you can select the same statistics displayed in the list columns.

Using the list, chart, and route view you can interactively explore the details of your workout. Notice that when you pick a split from the list, the same split is highlighted in both the chart and on the route. Select a split from the chart, zoom into the split segment on the route view, and select another split from the list. Use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to step through the splits.

You might find a split that is particularly slow using the Split pace vs average pace chart; click the split and zoom in on the map. Was the section uphill ? Switch to the Elevation change chart to see.

Change to the Split pace chart, click a bar in the chart and drag horizontally to select a range of splits. Notice the average split time for the selected range is updated in the left side of the chart, along with a horizontal line through the chart. At a glance you can quickly see what your fastest and slowest mile was.

Because inconsistencies in the GPS data make the pace chart jump up and down, you may find that using the split statistics (such as a quarter-mile split) is a much better way to analyze your workout.
