OMB Waypoints and Courses Elevation data sources

OMB Waypoints and Courses Elevation data sources

Postby ricomundy » Sun Sep 12, 2010 10:58 am

I'm curious OMB, if it would be possible on your Waypoints and Courses plugin to be able to use the custom DEM folders I've added to the "Elevation Correction" plugin? The elevation data from the DEM I use is much more accurate than the SRTM data and I would love to be able to use this by default in the Waypoints plugin.

Sincerely,
Rico

Bump

Hi OMB, any thoughts on this? I really like where this plugin is going, even the option you added today where when creating a course there is now the option to turn off the "Reduce track points" is excellent and I had really been wishing for that. Elevation from custom DEMs would be really nice.

You can change the elevation models on the plugin settings page.
Did you check this?

Thank you, I did check previously. I see the options
    SRTM 1"
    Viewfinder Panoramas 1"
    Viewfinder Panoramas 3"
    SRTM 3"

On the elevation correction plugin I have these options as well. However, it has an option "Add DEM" and I have added custom data for the United States from the USGS National Elevation Dataset which is much more accurate than SRTM or Viewfinder data. I just wondered if it would be possible to use this USGS data source directly in the Courses plugin. Otherwise, I would just continue first running the course I am creating from scratch through the Elevation Correction plugin first before sending to the Waypoint/Course plugin to add turn points, etc.

Could you please send me a PM with the information for these USGS data sources.

Cheers,
