Elevation correction using air pressure?

Elevation correction using air pressure?

Postby rogerpgvg » Thu Aug 13, 2015 1:35 pm

Just an idea ...

The Waypoints and Courses plugin has an option to correct elevation from a barometric altimeter by compensating for changes in air pressure. This is very useful, but often doesn’t work so well. For example, when I compensate for air pressure changes in the activity below, the elevation profile is completely deformed. (red = original elevation from barometric altimeter, blue = drift correction.) Presumably, this is because the DEM files on which the correction is based don’t represent the real elevation very accurately.

So I was wondering whether the following might be a possibility: Air pressure changes could be compensated for by using air pressure information from the weather plugin. Or would there be other disadvantages to that?
