create a course with average speed applying Naismith algthm

Postby fpdave » Sun Apr 15, 2012 5:27 am

I want to be able to create a route using autorouting on the map, which works beautifully I must say - best I've seen and beats BikeRouteToaster and other online versions of the same (tho would be noice to see elevation profile as its being created)

Then, from the route, create a course, specifying an average speed and a Niasmith algorithm to use (eg "Long Sportive Pace") and apply the algorithm, ie speed loss/gain or hills/descents, etc, so that it creates a realistic course I can then follow and compete against.

I look forward to this plugin meeting this challenge

You have to look backward in time not forward

I have implemented something even better in the GPS2PowerTrack plugin.
It provides an Analyze:Power:WhatIf action that recalculates an activity assuming that you can provide certain power values for different grades.

You can use that to fulfil your request - It's a multistep process but quite straightforward:
1. create an autorouted course and assure that elevation is added
2. create an empty activity and assign the proper equipment that you normally use for biking
3. Edit:Apply GPS track from ... the autorouted course
4. Analyze:Power:Whatif ... tick the 1st check box, tick "create activity", click "Calculate Impact" --> a new activity is created; have a look at its power track
5. select that new activity and Edit:Create course
Note: step 4 uses a dedicated climb zone - you will most probably like to edit that to your needs.

Cheers,
OMB

I think it needs to be a bit easier than this, but at least there isa temporary workaround.

thanks

Try it out - the functionality is at your hands.
If the results are convincing and MORE users than just a single one would like that, I can always streamline the user interface.

Hi!

just looked around for something like this. It is more or less what one might need as a poor man's power meter. I think it is a cool option. I tried to first create a power track normally that integrated the last weather and then leveled the average power. My last thing to try is the export to the forerunner so that you can get a virtual race partner that is preloaded with something that make sense for biking.

Let you know!

Cheers
