Wrong gear estimate - option to correct gear?

Wrong gear estimate - option to correct gear?

Postby oliverbird » Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:10 am

Hi,

Interesting plugin - I tested it against a recent ride where I knew I spent 95% of the time in the big ring. Your estimated gear is correct when I was in 5th and 3rd gears, but in 4th gear (50x19) the plugin incorrectly splits over half the time into 34x13 - these have very similar ratios (5.52 & 5.48 resp.) so I guess that explains the incorrect estimate. Is there any way to correct the gear selection - I would ideally take all the 34x13 time and allocate it to 50x19.

Is there any solution to this error?

Thanks!

No, everything is automatically estimated, and it's not recorded anywhere (re-calculated each time it's called up). You could try slightly altering your wheel circumference. That may change your other gear calcs as well, but maybe if you just change it slightly it could achieve what you're after.

More problems are likely to develop as you go to higher density cassette clusters. Compare a 8 speed cluster to an 11 speed cluster for example.
Test by taking same ride and faking the bike gearing.

OK, I'll tinker with the diameter and see if that helps - thanks.
