Extra file backup - Add file to list so its is remembered

Extra file backup - Add file to list so its is remembered

Postby texmurphy » Tue Apr 28, 2015 2:30 pm

Often Backup seems to "forget" the additional files I want it to backup (usually secondary logbooks). I go to Settings and find the files are unchecked. I tick them again. Backup may, or may not, remember this. It seems that if I switch Logbooks on ST open then the extra file setting is more likely to be lost.

Confirmed that if you select additional logbooks to be processed by the Backup Plugin, the logbooks will only remain ticked until you open another logbook. Then the Backup Plugin will forget the tick marks - for both the second logbook opened and for the original logbook.

If you are coaching or just using multiple logbooks, then switching between logbooks and then doing Backup saves will be incomplete.
The tick marks in Backup properties file list will be cleared anytime another logbook is opened. :evil:

Hi Tex,

I tried to reproduce your issue, but couldn't. It works well for me.
I have "logbook A" open, have 4 recently used logbooks in the list of "Additional backup files", 2 of these are ticked.
I then use "Logbook:Open" to open "logbook B" and close ST.
After opening ST again "logbook B" is open and the list of "Addtional backup files" has its tick marks where they were before.
So it looks ok.

@Tex: I don't know if you use the "Restore" of Backup plugin frequently? This will of course restore an older version of the settings file and hence change Backup plugin settings as well.
In order to check the BU plugin settings, search for a section in your ST settings file like
Code: Select all
        <AdditionalBackupFiles>
          <AdditionalBackupFile enabled="True">E:\...</AdditionalBackupFile>
          <AdditionalBackupFile enabled="True">E:\...</AdditionalBackupFile>
          <AdditionalBackupFile enabled="False">E:....</AdditionalBackupFile>
          <AdditionalBackupFile enabled="False">E:\...</AdditionalBackupFile>
        </AdditionalBackupFiles>

The "..." should be the paths that are displayed on the plugin's settings page.

Anybody else with similar issues like texmurphy???

Cheers,
OMB

I use the Backup Plugin about once every 2+ weeks to generate a backup set.
Prior use I had checked an additional logbook for Backup.
Just did a Backup now. The prior check of an additional Logbook was unchecked. I ticked the box again and reran the Backup.
I will try to remember to check the Backup Additional File as I use ST until my next Backup.

Just opened a small logbook I use to create Courses and saved it. Did a reopen of ST on that small logbook and the additional files to backup are no longer ticked. I re-ticked them and then did a Backup. Closed ST, opened my full logbook, and additional files are still ticked. Will post when they next un-tick.

Lost all the ticked additional files when I was working with a test logbook to resolve the Edit->Join issue.
I went to my regular logbook to do a save and the additional files were not selected. I selected them again, did the save, exit of ST, restart of ST and they are still selected. Seems like a transient problem - comes and goes...
