Garmin Connect Link

Postby dbrillha » Tue May 10, 2016 7:57 am

Garmin has made automatic uploads to Garmin Connect extremely easy and for many new Garmin devices, almost automatic. There is even an automatic/instant push to Strava.

But, then when I get home I have to plug in my Garmin and Import to my beloved SportTracks app.

It would be FANTASTIC if there was an IMPORT option that could grab the workout data from Garmin Connect. No need to have the device with you and connect it up with a USB cable or ANT dongle...

Yep, this feature exists in SportTracks online for a few years, just like Strava.

You can connect your Garmin Connect account to SportTracks and they will send us your workouts when complete.

If you use ST3 and have enabled CloudSync to connect your online account to your PC logbook, the Garmin workouts will flow right into your ST3 logbook too.

I've been using this since it was available. It is awesome! I can't image going back to the "old way". :D Thank you, SportTracks!

As a software guy myself, familiar with the difficulties in two-replication of changes between data stores of different layouts (like ST3 and ST.mobi), I have to say that the SportTracks folks have done an excellent job!

This stopped working for me today.
I have been using the Garmin Connect sync for quite some time, but today's workout isn't importing.
I see the workout in Garmin Connect.

I removed and readded the Garmin Connect connection but that didn't help either.

Any suggestions to troubleshoot?

Our system logs show that zero workouts were sent to us from 2016-06-16 22:59:09 to 2016-06-17 01:51:52 UTC. In the 02:00 hour there was an unusual high amount of requests coming from Garmin. Subsequently we see consistent traffic. I suspect an outage at the Garmin servers where workouts became queued and flushed at the 02:00 hour.

I checked your specific account, and found the last workout synched from Garmin Connect was imported on:

2016-06-17 02:11:51

Based on this, I believe it is working ok. If not, send an email to support with details.

Be advised that Garmin controls the timing of when workouts are synched. While typical sync time is within 5-10 minutes, if they have site outages or performance problems such as a long processing queue, it can take up to several hours to receive a workout from them. Because they are contacting us instead of us contacting them, there isn't a really reliable way to detect an outage (other than "they go quiet"). You can check this page, and scroll to "Push API (3rd Party)":

https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

But it's not terribly reliable.

You may also want to consult the following troubleshooting guide:

One final note. If GC is down, and you need the data *NOW*, you can always manually import it and the sync later will detect the duplicate and not import again.
