Critical Power Curve Comparisons - desktop

Postby the5krunner » Mon Oct 05, 2015 3:52 am

I have seen the mobi critical power curve analysis...nice!

However

What I would like to do is compare two critical power curves on one graph. It's actually for two power meters on one bike from the same session recorded on two garmins but I guess the same principle would apply to two different sessions.

I've used the OVERLAY plugin before which did the job at the time for comparing simple tracks eg power vs power. I couldn't see how to compare derived tracks using OVERLAY (eg 5s power vs 5s power OR critical power curve vs critical power curve)

STdesktop does not calculate a Critical Power.
As far as know, TA is the only plugin which calculates a CP per activity

In order to compare several CPcurves, I use the formula just above the CPtable.
The formula looks like this: 15000 Ws/Duration + 200 W
Which is the formula for a calculated line; it's a regression line according to the theory of critical power that provides the best approximation for the violet line .

Maybe a comparison of the gray lines is not very accurate.
But it is easy to understand comparison.

I have not figured out yet how to introduce the associated HeartRate or Cadence into this comparison.
OMBs recommendation from the Power/Cadence post has not awakened yet.

PS; It would be nice if the above CPformula could become a standard component of the Activity Documentation plugin

Have you looked at Quadrant Analysis http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/sporttr ... t-analysis
Slightly different from critical power but will allow for multiple activities on the same chart.
