SportTracks builds for Linux
With the 2.1.3478 (July 10, 2009) release SportTracks is providing
experimental support for Linux using
Mono 2.0+
Ubuntu
This build has been tested on
Ubuntu 9.04 which includes Mono 2.0. This Mono release is a bit old, but still seems to provide good support for most of the core SportTracks features.
Better support should be provided in Mono 2.4.2 which was released June 29, 2009, however packages have not been released for Ubuntu.
The next version of Ubuntu (10) will include a newer version of Mono which should be more stable. Please check the Ubuntu and Mono roadmap pages for details on release dates and version numbers.
OSX
A notable item in the Mono roadmap for 2.6 (planned release September 2009) is updates to
OSX for Windows.Forms which SportTracks relies on heavily.
At this point we cannot guarantee SportTracks will work on OSX with Mono 2.4, however it might. Ambitious and tech-savvy OSX users may want to try the install and post feedback on the forums.
For others, check back after Mono 2.6 has been released for OSX.
Other distributions
For other *nix flavors you can build Mono from the source, but you are on your own. Check the forums for additional details on bug reports and compatibility issues.
Installation
Step 1) Install an appropriate version of Mono 2.0 or later (ideally the latest stable build) from the
Mono website.
Step 2) Unpack the binaries from a release archive below into your user folder (or somewhere you have write access to).
Step 3) From the installation folder run "mono SportTracks.exe"
GPS download
The standard Garmin GPS import plugin relies on the Garmin Communicator API which is implemented as an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer and not supported in Linux.
To download data you can try other options such as
garmintools or
gpsbabel.
Download from the Globalsat GH615 and GH625 seems to work fine with the
Globalsat Device Import Plugin.
